Code Red: A National Call to Protect Medicaid

MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2025 — 12:30 PM LOCAL TIME

WHAT IS CODE RED?
Code Red: A National Call to Protect Medicaid is a coordinated day of awareness led by a grassroots coalition of physicians and health professionals.

On Monday, June 30, at 12:30 PM (local time), physicians and health professionals across the country will come together in a moment of awareness to call attention to the devastating Medicaid cuts proposed in HR 1, the federal “Big Beautiful Bill” which includes significant Medicaid cuts.

Use your lunch break to stand up for patients. Speak out for Medicaid.

This national moment of awareness is for everyone who cares about protecting access to care. We’re asking healthcare professionals to gather — even briefly, even silently — in support of their patients and the programs that serve them. A photo of a handful of white coats and scrubs holding signs like “Medicaid Saves Lives” sends a powerful message.

If you’re unable gather, you can still participate. Post on social media. Use #SaveMedicaid #CodeRedForMedicaid #HandsOffMedicaid. Share a patient story. Send an awareness email to colleagues, friends, or your local representatives. Every action helps amplify what’s at stake. Here is a link to printable signs you can use to support the effort.

If you or your practice would like further information about this event, please email lgakos@csms.org and we will put you in touch with the event organizers.

WHY NOW?
Congress is moving quickly on HR 1, the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” which includes over $900 billion in Medicaid cuts and threatens coverage for more than 13 million Americans. If passed, it would:

  • Cut over $900 billion from Medicaid
  • Strip coverage from 13+ million Americans
  • Force closure of rural hospitals, clinics, and critical providers
  • Disrupt care for children, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities
  • Overwhelm ERs, increase uncompensated care, and destabilize the safety net

These cuts would directly harm patients and communities. We must speak out while there’s still time.
