In support of its mission to improve the quality of care and safeguard the health of patients, the Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS) is pleased to announce CTHealthLink, a statewide health information exchange (HIE) that is now live. CTHealthLink encompasses an interoperable health information exchange, as well as patient health portals, extensive data analytics tools, and population health solutions.

CTHealthLink’s proven technology is already successfully operating in Kansas and similar efforts are under development in Georgia and South Carolina. This is a “turnkey” HIE for Connecticut, and does not require any Connecticut taxpayer funding to develop or implement.

“CTHealthLink provides a common-sense solution for our state. With gridlock in Hartford and a looming multibillion-dollar deficit, not to mention growing demands for patient data from Medicare, Medicaid and private payers, CTHealthLink is ready to go at no additional cost to Connecticut,” said Matthew Katz, EVP/CEO of the Connecticut State Medical Society. “CTHealthLink uses technology developed by physicians, for physicians and other clinicians – people who understand patient care and the demands of a busy practice.”

Five Things to Know About CTHealthLink

CSMS President Jeffrey Gordon, MD, chair of the CTHealthLink advisory committee, notes that Connecticut physicians and patients will benefit from this important resource:

As a physician, CTHealthLink will help me provide better quality patient care.  I will be able to access medical information about my patients when I need it, whether I am in hospital or in my office. This allows for improved real-time communication and care coordination between my office and hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and referring physicians across the state.  It also allows other doctors and health care providers to access the information they need about my patients. This improves efficiency by reducing time wasted trying to track down information and reduces the need for duplicate tests and procedures.

From the patient perspective, CTHealthLink will offer a secure, "one-stop" site for health information. My patients won't need to log into multiple portals, hand-carry their records, or rely on another office sending a fax. Most importantly, by providing the right health information in the right place at the right time, CTHealthLink will support the patient-physician relationship, which is at the heart of good medical care.
